Losing skin elasticity and muscle tone around the eyes is common as we get older. The result is loose folds of skin on the upper eyelids and deep creases under your lower eyelids. The fat underneath your eyes may take on a ‘baggy’ appearance, and the effects can be made worse by excessive sun exposure, smoking and from hereditary factors. This can give a tired appearance around the eyes that can make you look older than your years. If you’re unhappy about the appearance of your sagging eyelids, blepharoplasty can correct these common conditions. DOUBLE EYELID SURGERY – SUTURES BA popular minor cosmetic procedure that involves using hidden sutures to create well defined eyelid folds, creating a natural looking appearance of double eyelids. To find out whether you are suitable candidate, please book an appointment to see one of our Doctors for a consultation. DOUBLE EYELID SURGERY – CUT These structures consist of skin, muscle, fat, and a deep layer of connective tissue. Any or all of these structures may require surgical correction. A fine incision is made in the natural crease, and trimming of the appropriate layers is then performed. The crease itself is sometimes repositioned with internal sutures. Great finesse and judgement are required - too little taken, and the difference will be minimal; too much, and the lids will look unnaturally tight. If far too much is removed, the eyelids may even fail to fully close! Careful pre-operative assessment and planning are crucial - in good hands, such adverse outcomes are very rare.
